This is a baby Gothic doll that stands 33cm tall and she is called Jane. She is made of common synthetic  composite materials and cloth. This doll is meant to be scary and should appeal to those who enjoy the horror movies and ghostly magazines. Beneath the appearance of this doll there is a loving cuddly baby. “Yes” a horror doll can also be cute and cuddly! I have always liked horror movies and I don’t like gory images, but I do enjoy a good spooky ghost story. My favourite film is Rosemary’s Baby, which was made in 1968. It tells the story of a young wife living in Manhattan who becomes pregnant, but soon after she is diagnosed with a child in her womb she starts to believe that her elderly neighbours, who are members of a Satanic cult, are grooming her in order to seize her baby and use it for their rituals. The movies are very entertaining, but in real life there are also horror scenes.  We should not be afraid to recall these events or to reflect upon them in real time. Without the reminders that horror brings to our lives we fall short of stopping the events that might hurt people in the future. Hitherto, entertainment can have a deeper meaning that touches our hearts and instructs us in everyday life.

This doll is named Angharad, a Welsh version of Alice. She is made of composite material and she stands 54cm tall. Angharad means ‘much loved’. Angharad was Gerallt Gymro’s mother, one of the most famous Welsh Latin writers in the twelfth century. Angharad was also the name of the wife of Gruffudd ap Cynan (c. 1055 –1137), sometimes written as Gruffydd ap Cynan, was King of Gwynedd from 1081 until his death in 1137. In the course of a long and eventful life, he became a key figure in Welsh resistance to Norman rule. This doll has revolution written in her eyes. She is a doll for a changing world because she is wild, sensitive and acutely engaging.

This is a composite doll standing at 55cms. She is called Alvina, the counsellor of the elves. Alvina is originally an English girl’s name meaning a friend of elves. In the story of the Elves of Red, Alvina’s has a grandmother who is sick of Alvina’s nagging requests to learn about her family. The grandmother finally gives in and tells Alvina she is the reincarnation of a powerful sorceress and heir to the magical throne of Ignis. Alvina also learns that her kingdom has been taken over, and her parents have been killed by the Blue Elves. She then activates her hidden powers in order to seek revenge. As a result of her anger, Alvina’s grandmother is forced to subdue her. Alvina represents the headstrong girl who must fight her way out of a bad situation. She rises to the task and succeeds in her quest. Alvina is an inspiration doll that reminds her owner that nothing can be lost by facing up to difficult situations. Alvina is a doll for someone who enjoys a challenge and doesn’t shy away from change.

This is Priscilla she stands 23cms tall and is made of porcelain. Originally Priscilla was the short form of Prisca and the feminine form of the Roman family name Priscus, a Latin name which means “ancient” or “venerable”. In Greek she is the primordial. The name has been bestowed on new arrivals to suggest a long and eventful life. The name first appears in the Bible’s New Testament either as Priscilla or Prisca, a female leader in the early years of Christianity.  The name also appears along with Maximilla denoting the two female leaders of the Montanist movement in the 2nd century AD. The name was adopted by the Puritans in the 17th century and it appears in Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene in 1596. This doll is definitely special, she has a fairy queen appearance and she would love to find a home with a lover of fairies.
